Special Olympics Manitoba
Special Olympics Manitoba is dedicated to enriching the lives of Manitobans with intellectual disabilities through active participation in sport. With more than 1600 athletes and 1400 volunteers and coaches, Special Olympics Manitoba develops and delivers athletic programs in 18 different sports. Summer sports include: athletics, five‐ and ten‐pin bowling, gymnastics, power lifting, softball, swimming, golf, bocce, and basketball. Winter sports include: curling, snowshoeing, cross country skiing, floor hockey, alpine skiing, speed skating, and figure skating.
Special Olympics Manitoba is a volunteer‐based operation. Encourage Manitoba Knights to volunteer as coaches. Perhaps, if you are past your athletic prime, you could volunteer at sports events or fundraisers. Information is available at the Special Olympics website. Manitoba State and the Knights of Columbus are long‐time supporters of Special Olympics Manitoba. Your donations are always greatly appreciated. When Councils are planning an event or program, encourage the Council to donate the proceeds to Special Olympics. Next year, 2015, the International Olympic Summer Games will be held in Los Angeles.
